A not-for-profit organisation has signed-up to evaluate the impact a giraffe-themed sculpture trail has on Worcester.
The Worcester Business Improvement District (BID) is on board with Worcester Stands Tall – an art trail of 8ft tall giraffe sculptures set to arrive in the city in July.
Its evaluation of factors including the project’s impact on the economy of the city, will help understand the value the trail has brought to Worcester.
The organisation, which works to improve trading conditions for the businesses who contribute a BID levy, will also have its own giraffe sculpture included on the trail.
Phoebe Dawson, Manager at Worcester BID, said:
“We are so excited the trail is coming to Worcester. It is going to be great for our local businesses.
“We are also really pleased to be funding the evaluation of the trail so we can measure the impact Worcester Stands Tall has on the city’s tourism and economy.”
The art trail begins on Monday, 9th July and runs for 10 weeks until Sunday, September 16th. It will see 30 fibreglass giraffe sculptures standing tall through Worcester’s streets and public spaces to form an interactive art trail.
There will also be a collection of 23 giraffe calf sculptures decorated by school children, displayed through the city’s Crowngate Shopping Centre.
Sara Matthews, Worcester Stands Tall Project Manager, said:
“We are thrilled to have Worcester BID involved with our art trail.
“Its evaluation of the project’s impact will give an essential, factual and unbiased insight into how Worcester Stands Tall benefits the economy, tourist industry, arts scene and more.”
Once the trail has ended, the large sculptures will be auctioned to raise money for the St Richard’s Hospice Build 2020 Appeal.
The appeal aims to raise the final £1.4m needed to build a bigger hospice, enabling more patients and families to be cared for in Worcestershire.
The total cost for expanding and redeveloping the existing building in Wildwood Drive, Worcester, is £5.3m. For more information about Build 2020 visit www.strichards.org.uk/build2020
