A luxury vinyl flooring company has joined the ranks of sponsors supporting a major, giraffe-themed public art event.

Karndean Designflooring, based in the heart of Evesham, has sponsored an 8ft tall giraffe sculpture for Worcester Stands Tall – an art trail set to arrive in the city this summer.

The fibreglass giraffe will be decorated and displayed in Worcester for 10 weeks, forming a trail through the city streets alongside 29 other sculptures.

The art trail will run from Monday, 9th July to Sunday, 16th September, culminating in an auction where each sculpture will be sold to raise money for St Richard’s Hospice in Worcester.

Paul Barratt, Managing Director of Kardean Designflooring, said:

“We’re thrilled to be part of Worcester Stands Tall in partnership with our friends at St Richard’s Hospice.

“As one of the largest employers in Evesham, we’re always looking at ways we can help local good causes and help promote the region. We’ve been supporting St Richard’s Hospice for many years now, and we’re proud to be a part of their new community art project.

“We’re passionate about getting creative and it’s something we encourage daily in our showroom with visitors looking to design their own wood or stone floor. We’re looking forward to presenting something totally unique and special for the county.”

Smaller, giraffe calf sculptures decorated by school children will also be on display during the trail in Worcester’s Crowngate Shopping Centre.

Sara Matthews, Worcester Stands Tall Project Manager, said:

“We’re delighted to have such a respected business as Karndean on board with our project.

“The level of support from the business community has been fantastic – and we’re excited to work with companies based across Worcestershire, such as Karndean.

“Together, we can create a fantastic event which will take the county by storm – attracting tourists and raising Worcestershire’s profile on a national level too.”

The money raised at the Worcester Stands Tall auction in October will contribute to the St Richard’s Build 2020 Appeal.

The appeal aims to raise the final £1.4m needed to build a bigger hospice, enabling more patients and families to be cared for in Worcestershire.

The total cost for expanding and redeveloping the existing building in Wildwood Drive, Worcester, is £5.3m. For more information about Build 2020 visit www.strichards.org.uk/build2020
