Name: Gilded Gerty
Location: High Street (The Guildhall)
Artist: Glen Brooks
Glen has more than 20 years’ experience as a professional artist. The early part of his career consisted of creating original artworks for interior designers, predominantly for the hotel industry but not exclusively, and had instrumental roles on some truly fantastic projects throughout this time.
More recently, Glen was given a dream position at the artist Damien Hirst’s Studio. He was there for twelve months and loved every second of it. Glen also had the great pleasure of being chosen to create a bear ‘Honey Bear Honey Bottle’ for the Big Sleuth in Birmingham 2017, he had such a fabulous experience being part of that wonderful project.
Glen’s inspiration for ‘Gilded Gerty’ came from the beautiful, hand painted gilded fruit porcelain of Royal Worcester.
He wanted to both honour the artists that hand painted these beautiful works of art over the years but at the same time create a giraffe that would really stand out on the streets of Worcester, while bringing a sense of fun, colour and beauty.
He also wanted to inspire local residents and visitors to remember Royal Worcester and the fabulous works it has produced.
