A hospice team is calling for giraffe-lovers to join a safari-themed walk around the city this summer.
The St Richard’s Hospice Safari Walk will take place on Sunday, July 22 starting from Worcester Racecourse in Grand Stand Road at 10am.
Covering approximately either three or six miles, the walk takes in a series of decorated, 8ft tall giraffe sculptures on the Worcester Stands Tall art trail and is raising money for the hospice’s Build 2020 Appeal.
Worcester Stands Tall is a spectacular showcase of 57 giraffe sculptures on display through the city for 10 weeks from Monday, July 9 to Sunday, September 16.
Sara Matthews, Project Manager for Worcester Stands Tall, said:
“Join us for a summer safari through the city discovering our amazing, giant giraffe sculptures and collecting goodies along the way.
“It’s going to be a really fun, family day out – and we would love to see all our ‘explorers’ getting into the spirit and dressing up as their favourite safari creature for the walk!”
Of the 57 giraffes, 30 are 8ft tall and have been decorated by artists, while 27 are calf sculptures decorated by schools and community groups.
A total of 26 calves will be displayed in Crowngate Shopping Centre – while one calf will be on show in a location yet to be disclosed.
The full safari (around six miles) will see walkers visit each of the 30, 8ft tall giraffes – while the shorter half safari route (around three miles) takes in 15 large sculptures.
There will be a warm up with the team from David Lloyd to get everyone in the mood for an adventure around the city – with some surprises along the way!
The proceeds from the walk will go to the hospice’s Build 2020 Appeal which is raising funds to build a bigger hospice, enabling more patients and families to be cared for in Worcestershire.
The total cost for expanding and redeveloping the existing building in Wildwood Drive, Worcester, is £5.3m.
Tickets for the Safari Walk are £15 for adults, £10 for children under 16, and children under two go free.
Family tickets priced at £40 are available for two adults and two children aged two to 15, or one adult, three children aged two to 15.
