A private hospital in Worcester has signed-up to sponsor a sculpture in a giraffe-themed public art event.
Spire South Bank Hospital, based in Bath Road, has joined the ranks of sponsors backing the Worcester Stands Tall art trail – set to arrive in the city this summer.
Worcester Stands Tall will see 30, 8ft tall giraffe sculptures form a trail through the streets for 10 weeks from Monday, 9th July to Sunday, 16th September.
Each fibreglass sculpture will be decorated by artists and eventually auctioned to raise money for St Richard’s Hospice in Worcester.
Simon Milner, Hospital Director at Spire South Bank Hospital, said:
“Spire South Bank Hospital is proud to support St Richard’s Hospice, a key source of strength and support to many in Worcestershire and surrounds.
“Aspiring to give the highest levels of healthcare to patients and their families lies at the heart of both organisations and it is in this spirit of shared purpose that we are so pleased to support St Richard’s through the most unusual path of a giraffe!”
Also on display during the trail will be 23 smaller, giraffe calf sculptures which are set to be decorated by school children.
The calves will be displayed in Worcester’s Crowngate Shopping Centre and will return to their schools once the trail finishes on Sunday, 16th September.
Sara Matthews, Worcester Stands Tall Project Manager, said:
“It’s fantastic to have Spire South Bank involved in our art trail – especially as it’s supporting a fellow healthcare organisation, St Richard’s.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support of the community – including sponsors such as Spire – in backing Worcester Stands Tall.
“With just months to go before the trail launches, we’re so excited to stand tall for Worcester alongside all our fantastic supporters. It’s going to be a great summer!”
The money raised at the Worcester Stands Tall auction in October will contribute to the St Richard’s Build2020 Appeal.
The appeal aims to raise the final £1.4m needed to build a bigger hospice, enabling more patients and families to be cared for in Worcestershire.
The total cost for expanding and redeveloping the existing building in Wildwood Drive, Worcester, is £5.3m. For more information about Build 2020 visit www.strichards.org.uk/build2020
