Thousands of giraffe-seekers have flocked to take on the Worcester Stands Tall sculpture trail in its first four weeks.
Visitors from all over the world have spotted the brightly coloured giraffe sculptures on the trail through the city’s streets and open spaces.
Since the trail launched on Monday, July 9, the app has recorded more than 89,000 visits to individual giraffes – with more than 1,200 selfies uploaded to its gallery.
The trail lasts 10-weeks and features a tower of 57 giraffes – 30 of which are 8ft tall and will be auctioned in October for the St Richard’s Hospice Build 2020 Appeal.
A review by Helen Boyle-Mylius on the trail’s Facebook page said:
“What a great way to raise funds for and awareness of the hospice whilst having fun and getting everyone out and about enjoying this beautiful city.”
While another, left by Magdalen Davies, read:
“The trail is fabulous and took me to some parts of the city I hadn’t seen before. Well worth a visit.”
Sara Matthews, Project Manager for Worcester Stands Tall, said:
“It’s fantastic to see so many people exploring the trail and enjoying the giraffes.
“The app is a really great way to discover the sculptures – as you get fact about each giraffe and artist, alongside unlocking information about the city too.
“Most of all we love seeing all the ‘gir-elfie’ selfies – there’s some brilliant snaps of people meeting our giraffes, keep them coming!”
The app costs £1.99 and is available for download from the Apple App Store, Google Play or via the Worcester Stands Tall website.
Trail maps can be picked up at various places across the city – including the trail’s pop-up shop in Crowngate Shopping Centre and Worcester Tourist Information Centre. Activity booklets can be bought at the trail’s pop-up shop too.
The hospice’s Build 2020 Appeal aims to raise the funds needed to build a bigger hospice, enabling more patients and families to be cared for in Worcestershire.
The total cost for expanding and redeveloping the existing building in Wildwood Drive, Worcester, is £5.3m.
